Stay Alert, There Are Multiple Hurricanes In The Atlantic Right Now
Peak hurricane season is officially here
We'll start with the good news: There's no direct hurricane threat to the Turks & Caicos at this time. But that's no reason to get complacent.
There are currently three active hurricanes in the Atlantic right now — Florence, Helene and Isaac. And it's Hurricane Isaac in particular we want to keep an eye on. As of Monday morning, Isaac was about 1,230 miles east of the Windward Islands and moving west at 13 mph, according to TCI's Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies. Maximum sustained winds are at 75 mph.
Based on the forecast track, Isaac is expected to move across the Lesser Antilles and into the eastern Caribbean Sea on Thursday.
Hurricane Florence is now northeast of TCI and headed for the east coast of the U.S., while Hurricane Helene is 375 miles west of the southernmost Cabo Verde Islands, moving west-northwest at 16 mph. While Helene is strengthening with current winds of 105 mph, it's expected to take a turn to the northwest on Wednesday and currently poses no threat to land.
Be sure to check updates on these and other storms throughout the week.
